It’s less than a week til the Manx Heritage Transport Festival, and the Manx Electric Railway is playing it’s part with a series of events across the five days.
Wednesday 25th sees a Mail Service from Snaefell Summit to Derby Castle with M.E.R Van No.4 of 1894/5 in action carrying limited edition stamp covers from Laxey to Derby Castle. After the covers’s transfer from the Snaefell Mountain Railway, Van No.4 will depart Laxey attached to the 16:25 service, arriving at Derby Castle at 16:55. Covers for the above may be purchased from Snaefell Summit on the day for and for the rest of the transport festival at £4.75 each by calling 01624 816302.
Saturday 28th will see an enhanced service on the M.E.R, with Timetable F in operation (usually reserved for TT events), supplemented by additional specials, using 12 car-sets (5 on the Timetabled Service, 7 on Specials). The service will be every 10 minutes in the morning from Derby Castle to Laxey and return, and every 15 minutes in the afternoon. More details HERE
Visits to the Laxey Substation are also available from 11:00 to 15:00, for which a direction map will be posted at Laxey station. Alternatively, ask for ‘Laxey Car Shed‘ stop (Pole 345), and the building is to your right (facing Laxey station) opposite the road underbridge. A selection of classic cars from the Isle of Man Classic Car Club will also be on display at Laxey station.
Sunday 29th will see an enhanced service, again with Timetable F in operation, supplemented by additional specials, using 12 car-sets (5 on the Timetabled Service, 7 on Specials). More details HERE
The service will be every 15 minutes in the morning/every 30 minutes in the afternoon from Derby Castle to Ramsey, and every 30 minutes in the morning/every 15 minutes in the afternoon from Ramsey to Derby Castle.
A ‘Quarry Explorer’ Special Tour will operate from Ramsey to Dhoon Quarry and return, departing at 12:25, with a guided tour of the former Dhoon Quarries M.E.R loading site, Dhoon Quarry itself and it’s surround history, returning to Ramsey for around 16:00. Photo-stops will be held at various locations on the outward direction. (A separate charge of £5.00 per person is payable, with tickets purchasable in advance from Douglas IoMR Railway Station, or tel: 01624 673623).
Photostops will also be held on all southbound services at Bulgham (the highest point on the Manx Electric Railway, between Laxey and Dhoon Glen).
Timetables for the enhanced service on the 28th and 29th will be available on the day from Derby Castle, Laxey and Ramsey Stations.
