Sunday April 20th

The Sunday was the main event day for the Manx Electric, featuring a variety of events on the railway. The day kicked off with a parallel run of the oldest and newest cars within the fleet, Car No.1 and Car No.33 (hauling Van No.4) between Derby Castle and Groudle, with a photo-stop at Lag Birragh. After arrival and a brief photo-call at Groudle, No.33 and Van 4 continued on to Laxey, while No.1 returned to Derby Castle.

A special intensive timetable was operated for most of the day, with the following Car sets in use.

  • Car No.1/Trailer No.51
  • Car No.2/Trailer No.59
  • Car No.5/Trailer No.47
  • Car No.6/Trailer No.46
  • Car No.7/Trailer No.48
  • Car No.9/Trailer No.44
  • Car No.19/Trailer No.41
  • Car No.33/Van No.4

A derailment at Dumbells Row during the shunting of Trailer No.51 saw single-line working between Laxey Car Shed and Dumbells Row operated through most of the afternoon. When re-railed, Car No.1 and Trailer No.51 returned to Derby Castle Car Shed, and were swapped for Car No.22, operating single-motor.

Tours of Derby Castle Car Sheds were ran by ManxElectricRailway.co.uk in association with Depot Supervisor Steve Hall, and a separate review of this event can be found HERE.
