Ramsey Sprint Day June 2017 Report

TT 2017’s Ramsey Sprint Day was held this year on Tuesday 6th June. It is usually the busiest day of the season for the Manx Electric Railway, but unfortunately strong blustery winds and heavy rain during the first part of the morning saw lower than the usual numbers of passengers travelling, although the day was still a busy one.

Improved weather in the afternoon resulted in a late surge of travellers with Car No.32 and Trailer No.62 being brought into service for one return journey to Ramsey, the only open car to be used during the day.

The most unusual combination to appear during the day was Car No.19 hauling Trailer No.61. Of interest in early morning was an 08:10 departure from Derby Castle and a similarly early departure of Car No.5 from Laxey (where it had been stored since Sunday) to run a shuttle service from Laxey to Ballabeg; bus services on the adjacent road had temporarily been stopped due to a fallen tree. In the event, the tree was quickly cleared and the shuttle service was not required.

The following Car and Trailer sets were used:

Car No.2 and Trailer No.47
Car No.5
Car No.6 and Trailer No.43
Car No.7 and Trailer No.48
Car No.9 and Trailer No.40
Car No.19 and Trailer No.61
Car No.20 and Trailer No.41
Car No.21 and Trailer No.46
Car No.22 and Trailer No.44
Car No.32 and Trailer No.62
