The Manx Electric Railway’s 2017 season started today with Car No.19 having the honour of operating the first service from Derby Castle at 9.40am. Second car out was Car No.20 operating the 10.40am from Derby Castle, and Car No.5 working the 10:55am from Laxey.
Following a motor defect discovered on its return trip from Ramsey, Car No.19 was swapped out by Car No.7 for the 12:40 from Derby Castle, the Car completing another trip and stabling at Laxey overnight for service the next morning.
The day saw the first use of the temporary terminus at Ramsey, on the site of the former car shed. Single line working is also currently in place between Derby Castle and Groudle due to ongoing relay works at Braeside and Far End.
