M.E.R Carries the Torch

Updated 31.05.12 – It is now understood that Car 1 and Trailer 59 will be used in the case of sunny weather.

It has been announced that the Manx Electric Railway will be taking part in the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay on June 2nd 2012.

The historic event will take place just after dinnertime, with the Torch arriving at Derby Castle at 12:35pm, having traveled on the Douglas Horse Tramway and with a cyclist to reach the M.E.R terminus. The torch will then depart Derby Castle on board newly restored Car No.7 (along with Trailer No.48 ) on the M.E.R., departing at 12:40pm and arriving at Laxey at 13:20 – the torch then being transferred to the Laxey Wheel for a photoshoot, before it’s journey to Ballasalla and Castletown.

A full itinerary for the day is as below

2 June 
10:25 – National Sports Centre
10:35 – TT motorbike sidecar
11:45 – Lifeboat Station, Douglas
12:15 – Horse Tram, Douglas
12:20 – Cyclist, Douglas
12:40 – Depart Derby Castle – Manx Electric Railway
13:20 – Arrive Laxey – Manx Electric Railway
