History: The locomotive ‘Pig’ was purchased as surplus to requirements from Bord Na Móna, the Irish Peat company, by RMS Locotec in August 2008. It was used as a permanent way engine, and hauled short-hop passenger workings during the July 2009 Manx Heritage Transport Festival between Laxey and Ballaragh. LM344 left the railway and island in November 2010, for further storage at Wolsingham on the Weardale Railway, before returning to the Island in January 2014 without it’s previous name, for use the Isle of Man Railway near Ballacostain, and again on the Manx Electric, for the March 2014 repairs at Ballaglass. Following storage at Dhoon Quarry throughout Summer 2014, the locomotive has returned to use between Lag Birragh and Howstrake on track relay works, and hauling passenger trains between Dumbells Row and Laxey Car Shed for the July 2015 Manx Heritage Transport Festival. ‘Pig’ once again left the island in August 2015 for attention to its wheels, returning in September.
