Builder: Wickham of Ware
Build Number: 11730
Current Status/Location: Undergoing Overhaul, Burton-on-Trent
History: Wickham No.11730 was built in 1991 for the National Air Traffic Services (successor to the Civil Aviation Authority), and arrived on the Snaefell Mountain Railway in the same year in part change for former example No.7642. It was purchased for the same duties as the previous three examples – transporting NATS maintenance staff to maintain the aerial mast installation located at the Summit – an all year round task, not possible by the usual electric power as the wires are taken down above the Bungalow in the Winter.
No.11730 is in use on the mountain railway today – and can be seen all year round. It also makes the odd display appearance for special events – most recently for the 2015 ‘Diesel Day’ at Laxey. In Autumn 2016 it was exported off island for overhaul at Clayton Equipment of Burton-on-Trent, and is expected to return in Spring 2017.
