Builder: Wickham of Ware
Build Number: 10956
Current Status/Location: Operational, Snaefell Laxey Car Shed
History: Wickham No.10956 was built in 1977 for the National Air Traffic Services (successor to the Civil Aviation Authority), and arrived on the Snaefell Mountain Railway in the same year to replace No.5864, which was subsequently sold to the M.E.R Board. It was purchased for the same duties as the previous two – transporting maintenance staff to maintain the aerial mast installation located at the Summit – an all year round task, not possible by the usual electric power as the wires are taken down above the Bungalow in the Winter.
No.10956 is still extant on the railway today and is in use as a reserve vehicle for the newer No.11730 of 1991 – although it can be seen from time to time on the mountain!
