The start of 2011 sees a new book released on the M.E.R by the well-known author Robert Hendry.
“‘Manx Electric Railway Saga’ promises a glimpse into the Hendry family’s M.E.R photographic archive that extends over several decades, recording many ‘behind the scenes’ aspects of M.E.R operation. The book is noted to contain over 250 photos of the entire network (most in colour), including many colour and previously unpublished snapshots, and also includes new historical facts on items such as the line’s freight rolling stock and previously unpublished debates throughout the M.E.R’s history.”
At 144 pages and a £38.80 pricetag, the book is not a cheap or small item, however promises to be worthy of a place on any M.E.R enthusiast’s bookshelf.
Two sample photos from the book are available below featuring ‘Winter Saloon’ No.22 in the late-1950s ‘Nationalisation’ Green livery, and No.1 at Ballaragh in a rare snow scene.
