The initial stages of the restoration to full working order of Car 14 continues in Derby Castle works. In a joint project between the MER’s craftsmen and volunteers, the MER staff are restoring the mechanical and electrical aspects and volunteers will be carrying out work on the bodywork.
The initial work has seen the removal of the seat backs, a number of the seat benches and the inside bulkhead seats. Both dashes, one of which was damaged sometime ago, have been removed; at least one is corroded beyond reuse. A new section of channelling has been fitted to the Ramsey end of the underframe. © Andrew Scarffe
