2012 Season Begins

The M.E.R. reopened for the 2012 season on Saturday March 17th with a welcome return to service for two Cars – unfortunately the day did not go without incident!

As Timetable A was in use, two sets were supplied from Derby Castle Depot. The scheduled set for the 09:40 saw Winter Saloon No.22 paired with Winter Trailer No.57, returning to traffic after last seeing use in June 2010. Classmates 20 and 58 formed the 11:10 departure meaning both sets were formed of Winter Saloons and Trailers.

Around 2pm, Overhead line problems at Ballure left 22 and 57 stranded on the northern section. Car 20 was turned back at Laxey (minus Trailer 58) to form the 15:25 service to Derby Castle, then returning single-motor to Laxey to form the 16:45 return to Derby Castle.

In the meantime, recently overhauled Car No.5 emerged from Derby Castle and underwent an empty run to Laxey, returning with No.58. The Car, which last worked in late 2010, has undergone an extensive overhaul and repaint and had already undergone several test runs prior to Saturdays run and will enter normal service shortly.

Timetable A is now in operation on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays until the end of March when the M.E.R begins running daily. More information is available on the Current Timetable page.
