The 1893 Originals – 23 – A Bold Blue Move

After recieving a fresh coat of Maroon in 1996, Car No.2 was set to cause a few differences of opinion at the age of 109. The possibility of the original three Cars being delivered in an alternative livery to the well-known maroon has been raised several times, however no substantial proof has ever been available to support the claim. Regardless of this, No.2 saw a partial repaint over the 2001/2002 Winter into this ‘could have been’ livery, with its maroon dash panels and lining replaced by a deep royal blue.

The repaint caused some controversy between enthusiasts regarding its authenticity, however the result was not unattractive, and the Car was used for several private hires during the next two years, as well as continuing its duties on specials and occasionally front line passenger traffic.
