M.E.R operations began once again on the 5th of January 2000. Appropriately, the 107-year old veteran Car No.1 was chosen to operate the first millennium passenger service on the M.E.R, the 09:20 Derby Castle to Groudle and 09:45 return. This service, ran during the late 1990s and early 2000s, was intended to entice potential commuters from the Groudle and Onchan areas into Douglas via a connecting bus service at Derby Castle. Unfortunately, with the weather being particularly bad on the day, No.1 was returned to depot after completing this duty and replaced by ‘Winter Saloons’ No.20 and No.22 for the days diagrams.
