Now that Car No.1 had returned and proved itself suitable for traffic over the course of the 2012 Summer, the decision was taken to return Car No.2 to traffic in-time for the ‘120 Years of the M.E.R’ celebrations in September.
Work was started on Car No.2 in the Winter of 2012, with the trucks were removed for off-site overhaul and the body was placed on trestles in the Bottom Sheds. However, Car No.2 was not to get it’s own trucks back, it instead received the set of Brush ‘D’s previously carried by Car No.7 (ex-Car No.27), No.s 985 and 986. Car No.2 returned to traffic in March 2013, undergoing tests mid-month with Trailer No.45, and returning to passenger traffic on the 30th, Good Friday, working with Trailers 57 and 58.
The car is pictured here at Bulgham Summit on a full line test with engineering staff, hauling Trailer No.45.
This concludes the 1-3 Originals Feature: We hope you have enjoyed it, and we will wait to see what the rest of 2013, and the future has for Cars 1 and 2!
