Winter Photography – 03/11/2012

The event concentrates on two themes – with ‘Works Cars’ and ‘The M.E.R in Laxey’ being the focus of attention.

The main event will be a scheduled Photo Tour utilising Crossbench Car No.32 and Works Trailer No.52 between Derby Castle and Ballaskeig, with photo stops in both directions. This provides the unique chance to ride on the M.E.R. Permanent Way train, with Trailer No.52 (although not available for passenger use!) having not been part of an M.E.R. passenger service since at least the mid-1950s. The use of Car No.32 on passenger service in November is also a rarity not to be missed.

The second part of the above tour will include a guided walk around Laxey conducted by volunteer stewards. With the Laxey site subject to various changes over the next few years, the tour will take in both historic and new sites in the Laxey area including the station area, Glen Roy Viaduct and will also allow rare glimpses inside the 1934-built substation and 2009-built Car Shed – a rare chance to photograph the vehicles stored inside.

Food will be available from Laxey Station Cafe (a special lunch of soup and a roll with homemade cake and tea or coffee, £7.00, call 01624 863257 to prebook)

A competition is also being held with ‘Gallery‘ Magazine for the best photograph taken during this Event Day (with a prize of £50), and will be running a double-page spread of photographs from the event. Entries to rachelATgallery.co.im (replace the AT with a @)
