Rush Hour on the Railways – Easter Weekend

Friday 15th April 2022 – M.E.R. Timetable C in operation

Manx Electric Railway Parallel Run

Commence our festival with the traditional Manx Electric Railway Parallel Run using 1893 Cars 1 and 2, freshly painted in their original liveries, from Derby Castle to Groudle Glen. Departs Derby Castle 08:50.
Standard tram fares apply. Go Travel cards accepted.

Unusual Combinations

A line up of unusual combinations in service for the day including Cars 1/51, 2/60, 19/59 and 32/57. (Please note that during adverse weather open trams and trailers may be swapped for enclosed ones)

Motorman Tasters

Try your hand at driving Tunnel Car 7 between Laxey and Lewaigue, passing along the cliff tops 588 feet above the sea at Bulgham Bay and through the scenic farmland of Maughold Parish.

£30 per participant. To book, visit www.rail.im or call the Welcome Centre 01624 662525.

Car 7 departs Laxey at 09:50, 11:50, 13:50 and 15:50.
Participants must be aged between 21 and 75. Proof of age may be required. Four participants per return trip.


Saturday 16th April 2022 – M.E.R. Timetable C in operation

Laxey Car Shed Tours

An opportunity to view items of engineering and out of use rolling stock stored in the shed, including Locomotive 23, Freight Trailer 26 and Bulkhead trailer 50; (undergoing restoration).

Tours Start at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30 & 14:30.

Tours start at Laxey Car Shed, accessed by using the ‘Laxey Car Shed’ M.E.R. stop or walking via the road from Laxey station.

Sunday 17th April 2022 – M.E.R. Timetable C+ in operation

Intensive M.E.R. service

An extra-special service with 8 cars in use, with an up-to 15 minute frequency on departures from Derby Castle, Laxey and Ramsey. Download the special timetable by clicking below:

Cars and trailers in use will include 1/49, 2/54, 6/37, 7/59, 14, 19/42, and 32/57. (All cars subject to availability)

Travelling Post Office

One of the Manx Electric Railway’s Mail Vans will be situated at Laxey Station Siding and used for sorting mail and selling commemorative covers from 10:00. A Railway Letter Service will also operate from the Summit on the Snaefell Mountain Railway to Laxey.


Monday 18th April 2022 – M.E.R. Timetable C in operation

Derby Castle Shed Tours

Each tour will include a brief history of the Derby Castle yard, a look at different types of trams, how they work and are maintained. Items of rolling stock not currently in use will be displayed in the Depot and MER artefacts will be on view.

Tours limited to 10 persons per tour. Tours start at 11:15, 12:15, 14:15 & 15:15 (Please meet at the MER Museum at the Derby Castle sheds for your tour to start).
