Friday April 14th

Derby Castle Car Shed Tours
Take part in a tour of the historic Car Sheds and Workshops at Derby Castle, the home of the Manx Electric Railway for over 120 years. Your tour, guided by stewards from the team will include behind-the-scenes views showcasing the work carried out to maintain and operate the Victorian and Edwardian tramcars, as well as displays of artifacts and rarely-seen rolling stock. The opportunity will also be available to inspect the latest work on the comprehensive overhaul of ‘Ratchet’ Car No.14. Tours limited to 10 persons per tour.

Tours start at: 11:15, 12:15, 14:15, 15:15 – Meet at the Manx Electric Railway Museum (located at Derby Castle Car Sheds) 5 minutes prior to your tour starting.

Crossbench Colours
Ride on newly repainted Manx Electric Railway Crossbench Cars No.16 and No.32, 60 years after nationalisation of the MER by the Isle of Man Government. Car No.16 will carry the 1950s pre-nationalisation austerity red livery and Car No.32 will carry the post 1957 green and white livery. Both trams will operate special workings throughout the day and there will be some photographic stops.

Following Rush Hour, Car No.16 will be lettered and lined into traditional Manx Electric Railway colours.

Winter Saloon Car 21 will also be on timetabled services, in nationalised green and white livery.

Saturday April 15th

Original Cars No.1 and No.2 on Timetabled Service
The Manx Electric Railway’s oldest tramcars, Cars No.1 and No.2 of 1893, will be working on the timetabled service, starting from Derby Castle.
Car No.1 departs Derby Castle at 09:40 (and subsequent diagram)
Car No.2 departs Derby Castle at 10:10 (and subsequent diagram)

Sunday April 16th

Intensive Service
An intensive service will operate throughout the day between Laxey and Ramsey.

Derby Castle Photography Evening – 19:00 to 21:00
“Lights, Camera, Action!” at Derby Castle car sheds, including specially posed vehicles, cameo scenes and a wealth of photographic opportunities. Illuminated tram shuttles to Far End for photographs of Douglas Bay. 19:00 to 21:00. The Manx Electric Railway Museum will be open for tea and coffee.
Tickets: Standard fares apply for the tram shuttles – Go Explore travel cards accepted.

Monday April 17th

Parallel Run
Car No.32, newly repainted in Nationalisation green and white livery, will parallel the 09:10 service car from Laxey as far as Dhoon Glen. On the return trip, Car No.32 will pause at Bulgham Bay for photographic opportunities. Car No.32 departs Derby Castle for Laxey at 08.30. Standard tram fares apply. Go travel cards accepted.

Motorman Taster Sessions
Try your hand at driving Manx Electric Railway Car No.32 (subject to weather conditions), between Laxey and Dhoon Quarry, including the dramatic and scenic section of line around Bulgham Bay, 588 feet above sea level. Participants must be aged between 21 and 75 (proof of age maybe requested). Tram departs Laxey at 10.30, 11.30, 13.30, 14.30 and 15.30 – Two participants per trip.
