Friday March 25th

Welcome in 2016
‘Winter Saloon’ Car No.20 and ‘Nationalisation Green’ Car No.16 will run in parallel between Derby Castle and Groudle. Run Departs Derby Castle 09.00 with photo stops en route, returning for 09.35.

Cars No.1 and No.2 in service
The Manx Electric Railway’s oldest tramcars, Cars No.1 and No.2 of 1893, will be working on the timetabled service, starting from Derby Castle.

Derby Castle Car Shed Tours
Take part in a tour of the historic Car Sheds and Workshops at Derby Castle, the home of the Manx Electric Railway for over 120 years. Your tour, guided by stewards from the www.manxelectricrailway.co.uk team will include behind-the-scenes views showcasing the work carried out to maintain and operate the Victorian and Edwardian tramcars, as well as displays of artifacts and rarely-seen rolling stock. The opportunity will also be available to inspect the latest work on the comprehensive overhaul of ‘Ratchet’ Car No.14. Tours limited to 10 persons per tour.

Tours start at: 11:15, 12:15, 14:15, 15:15 – Meet at the Manx Electric Railway Museum (located at Derby Castle Car Sheds) 5 minutes prior to your tour starting.

Saturday March 26th

Colour Clashes Day
A day of colorful combinations and clashes, featuring a selection of the Manx Electric’s diverse rolling stock on the timetabled service.

Sunday March 27th

Special Enhanced Service between Derby Castle and Laxey
Additional journeys will be ran between Derby Castle and Laxey, with 9 car sets in use on a 15 minute headway. A special timetable/roster will also be in operation, available from HERE.

Stamps on the M.E.R
A special postal service will operate between Derby Castle and Ramsey. Railway letter covers, cancelled with railway station postmarks, will be carried one of the Manx Electric Railway’s restored Mail Vans, No.4 or No.16, on the 09:40 from Derby Castle. After visiting Ramsey, it will be situated at Laxey Station from 10:55 onwards. These very limited edition covers can be ordered in advance by phoning 01624 816302 and will be available at Laxey Station on their arrival from Ramsey. Covers are £4.75 each.

Derby Castle Photography Evening – 19:00 to 21:00
An evening of posed photography at the Car Sheds at Derby Castle with the M.E.R Museum open for visits, cars displayed on the shed fanwork and parallel runs to Groudle Glen with Cars No.1 and No.9 at 19:15 and 20:15.

Monday March 28th

Motorman Taster Sessions
An opportunity to try your hand at driving one of the Manx Electric Railways historic 1894-built ‘Tunnel Cars’ on one of the most scenic areas of the line between Laxey and the former station at Garwick Glen. Participants will take it in turn to use the tram controls on the steep climbs out of Laxey to Ballabeg and the air brakes on the returning descent.

Lessons start at Laxey: 10:05, 11:05, 12:05, 14:05, 15:05

Trailer 60 – 120 years in service
Unique 1896-built open Trailer No.60 celebrates 120 years in traffic this year – the vehicle will be on display at Laxey Station all day for up close photography.

All of the above events are subject to availability and operational constraints.
